It is customary for most people to save their money, if they save money, in a bank. A bank is a business, of course, and its function is to make money for its shareholders. How do banks make money?
They gamble! Well, they don’t call it gambling, but they do take risks. They lend money to people and businesses and earn lots of money from the interest on the loans.
Interestingly, the government supports the banks. If banks make a bad investment and lose money, your money is insured. An important question is, why give so little interest to personal savers?
