Whether out for lunch, dinner, coffee, drinks or any combination of the above, who pays?  In some conditions, the team leader will pay, such as a family or a small work staff.  

When each person pays only for what he/she orders, some say that is “Dutch Pay.”  You pay for what you eat or drink.  

However, to say “Dutch” in that expression is perhaps not a very kind or “good” expression to the ears of someone from The Netherlands.  

Next time, I’ll say, “Let’s all pay for ourselves.”

외출해서 점심, 저녁, 커피, 음료수를 즐길 때 혹은 이 중에 어느 조합이든 누가 그 비용을 지불하나요? 가족이나 소규모 직원 모임 같은 일부 경우에서는 그중에 대표가 지불한다. 

한 사람 한 사람 각자 자신이 주문한 것만 지불하는 경우 “더치페이”라고 말한다. 당신이 먹고 마시는 것에는 당신이 지불하는 것이다. 

하지만, 그 “네덜란드” 라고 말하는 것은 네덜란드사람 누군가의 귀에는 친절이나 “좋은” 표현은 아닐 것이다. 다음번에 나는 “우리 모두 각자 부담하자”라고 말할 것이다.
