[우먼컨슈머= 존발렌타인]There are several countries in the world who call their currency “dollar”.  The United States dollar has several nicknames, too.  One name is “buck”.  Why?  

A “buck” is actually a male deer.  Long ago, people living in rural areas might often trade or barter rather than exchange money.  

A hunter could use a buckskin to buy what he needed from a store in a town because it had value.  

The word “buck” came to represent money.  Even today, it’s a useful word and ten “bucks” is ten dollars.

이 세상에는 그들의 통화를 “달러”라고 부르는 몇몇 나라들이 있다. 미국 달러에도 몇몇 개의 별명이 있다. 한 가지 이름은 “벅”이다. 왜일까?

“벅”은 사실 수컷 사슴이다. 오래전, 시골에 사는 사람들은 종종 환전을 하지 않고 거래를 하거나 물물 교환을 했었다. 

사냥꾼은 사슴의 가죽이 가치가 있었기 때문에 마을의 상점에서 필요한 것을 살 수 있었다. 

“벅”이라는 단어가 돈을 상징하게 되었다. 오늘날에도 이 단어는 유용하게 쓰이는 단어이며 10개의 “벅스”는 10달러이다.
